About Eriskay accommodation

Eriskay accommodation is scarce and small-scale — a few self-catering houses and no big hotels. Book early. You stay here for the beach, the Politician, the Barra ferry and the feeling of being at the end of the road.

The causeway to South Uist means you are not cut off: Daliburgh shops and Lochboisdale ferry are a short drive. If Eriskay itself is full, look at South Uist accommodation just over the causeway.

There is a shop, the inn, the harbour and Prince's Beach. It is a proper island village, not a resort.

CalMac from Barra (Ardmhor) to Eriskay. The causeway north puts you on South Uist in minutes; Lochboisdale is about 20 minutes by car.

Eriskay accommodation — common questions

Can I stay on Eriskay without a car?

Possible but limiting. The Barra ferry foot-passenger option works, and the inn and beach are walkable from the village, but shops and most South Uist accommodation need a lift or a bus that may not match your times.

What if there is no Eriskay accommodation left?

Stay on South Uist — Kilphedar, Polochar and Lochboisdale are the closest — and drive over the causeway for the day. That is how most visitors do Eriskay.

Do I need a car for Uist accommodation?

A car makes the islands far easier. Buses run, but they are infrequent. Many self-catering cottages and B&Bs are off the main spine road. If you fly into Benbecula, hire a car at the airport or arrange a pickup with your host.

When should I book Uist accommodation?

Book early for July, August and Hebridean Celtic / local festival weekends. Shoulder months — May, June and September — are quieter, often cheaper, and still good for beaches and walking. Winter lets are available but check heating and ferry reliability.
