Who we are

uist.com is operated by Oliver & Dominik Doyle Enterprises ("we", "us", "our"). We provide an accommodation directory, business listings, visitor information, and related services for the Uist islands in Scotland's Outer Hebrides.

What data we collect

Information you provide

Account registration — email address (used for magic-link authentication).
Accommodation & business listings — name, description, address, contact details, and images you upload.
Property listings — property details, pricing, and images.
Business claims — your name and proof of ownership you submit when claiming a listing.
Reviews — your name and review content.
Contact forms — any information you include in messages sent through the site.

Information collected automatically

Server logs — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. These are processed by Cloudflare and retained in accordance with their privacy policy.
Cookies — we use a session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use your data

To provide and operate the site and its features.
To authenticate your identity when you log in.
To display your listings, reviews, and business information publicly on the site.
To process business claim requests.
To respond to enquiries you send us.
To improve the site and monitor for abuse or technical issues.

Legal basis for processing

We process personal data on the basis of: (a) your consent when you create an account or submit information; (b) legitimate interest in operating and improving the site; and (c) contractual necessity when providing services you've requested.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and security services.
Resend — email delivery for magic-link authentication.
Google Places API — business data import (we send business names/locations, not your personal data).

Data retention

Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. Listing data is retained for as long as the listing is published. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify inaccurate data.
Request erasure of your data.
Restrict or object to processing.
Data portability.
Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Third-party links

Our site contains links to external websites (accommodation booking platforms, airline sites, ferry operators, etc.). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. Outbound links may include UTM tracking parameters that identify uist.com as the referral source but contain no personal data.

Children's privacy

Our services are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
