About Berneray accommodation
Berneray accommodation is famous for the Gatliff hostel, a handful of cottages and B&Bs, and one of the best beaches in the Hebrides. It is a small island — stay here if you want West Beach at dawn and the Harris ferry on the doorstep.
The causeway to North Uist means you can shop in Lochmaddy or drive on to Benbecula. Many people stay on North Uist and visit Berneray for the day; staying on the island itself is quieter and saves the drive for sunset.
Book well ahead in summer. Inventory is tiny compared with South Uist or North Uist accommodation.

How do I get to Berneray accommodation? ▾
Sail from Leverburgh on Harris, or drive from Lochmaddy over the causeway (about 20 minutes). There is no airport on Berneray.
Is Berneray only for walkers? ▾
Walkers and beach people, yes — but families stay too. There is a shop in season, the hostel, and easy access to North Uist if you want a wider choice of meals and shops.
Do I need a car for Uist accommodation? ▾
A car makes the islands far easier. Buses run, but they are infrequent. Many self-catering cottages and B&Bs are off the main spine road. If you fly into Benbecula, hire a car at the airport or arrange a pickup with your host.
When should I book Uist accommodation? ▾
Book early for July, August and Hebridean Celtic / local festival weekends. Shoulder months — May, June and September — are quieter, often cheaper, and still good for beaches and walking. Winter lets are available but check heating and ferry reliability.
