About Grimsay accommodation
Grimsay is an independent island between North Uist and Benbecula. It is the stepping stone in the North Ford causeway (A865) that connects the two larger islands — a working fishing community, not a detour.
Grimsay accommodation is small-scale: a handful of self-catering houses and croft lets, often around Kallin harbour. Stay here for boats, otters and a quieter night than Balivanich, with the airport still a short drive.
If Grimsay itself is full, North Uist (Carinish) and Benbecula are the next causeway hops. You still pass through Grimsay every time you drive the chain.

Is Grimsay its own island? ▾
Yes. Grimsay is independent, sitting between North Uist and Benbecula on the North Ford causeway. It is not a township of either neighbour, even though some addresses still say “Isle of North Uist”.
How do I get to Grimsay accommodation? ▾
Drive the A865. There is no ferry stop and no airfield. Benbecula Airport is about 15 minutes south; Lochmaddy is about 20 minutes north.
Do I need a car for Uist accommodation? ▾
A car makes the islands far easier. Buses run, but they are infrequent. Many self-catering cottages and B&Bs are off the main spine road. If you fly into Benbecula, hire a car at the airport or arrange a pickup with your host.
When should I book Uist accommodation? ▾
Book early for July, August and Hebridean Celtic / local festival weekends. Shoulder months — May, June and September — are quieter, often cheaper, and still good for beaches and walking. Winter lets are available but check heating and ferry reliability.
